Huge life update: I’m moving to China. If it’s any consolation, I’m as shocked as you are.
After a personal crisis and realisation that I need to spend some time on my own self improvement and future goals, I decided to apply for a few jobs abroad.
Unfortunately my application to be one of Santa’s elves in Lapland was rejected (still heartbroken about that), but just 6 days after applying I received the call to say I have a year’s contract in China, beginning in January 2020!!
So, what exactly will I be doing? Nothing Santa related, clearly. Nope, I’ll be teaching English to kids and teens in the ‘small’ city of Foshan! I say ‘small’, because it’s a city with a population of 4 million as opposed to 23 million… but certainly much bigger than anywhere I’m used to in the UK!

I’m super excited but it’s still a few months away yet. My recruiter is a company called EF Education First, a world-renowned education business with over 40,000 employees! They pay for my flights, visa, and my foundation TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) course which is essential to my placement. With around 3 months until I move, I’m going through the process of legalising my documents and applying for a working visa, a whole complicated process involving solicitors and a visit to the Chinese Consulate at some point in the near future.
Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly and I’ll have loads more China content on my blog and over on my Instagram in the next few months! Stay tuned 😎
