Kuala Lumpur’s Best Kept Secret

…..or at least it was until I wrote a blog post about it!

After watching an old Kara and Nate video which just happened to pop up on my YouTube suggested page, we just HAD to visit the ‘secret’ bar that they went to. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure if it still existed, as it was filmed before Covid so I wasn’t sure if it had survived the pandemic. Lucky for us, it had!

Enter…. The Helipad Lounge.

That’s right, a helipad. An actual functioning helipad on the roof of a skyscraper. Which turns into a bar in the evening.

I had it pinned on Google maps but when we were approaching it just looked like an average building on a street corner. We did a lap of the building in case it was behind it, but nope, it was definitely this random old concrete building. So we went inside and the grumpy-looking security guard on the door silently pointed to the lift and a sign which said ‘floor 34’. At this point, we were just laughing nervously because it looked SO weird! But we got in the lift and went up to floor 34….

And stepped out into darkness. Just a dark corridor and a spooky-looking humanoid statue. Then a man popped his head through a door and said we were in the right place! Welcome to the Helipad.

It cost 100 ringgit each to enter (pretty steep at £20) but we’d got this far and just had to see what it was like. There was no turning back now. The rest of our week’s budget and 4 more flights of stairs later and we were standing on a literal helipad in the middle of Kuala Lumpur!!!

Immediately we just looked at each other with stupid grins on our faces saying “yep, best £20 we’ve ever spent!”

We were one of the first there as it only opens at 5pm (after it’s finished being a real helipad for the day) and picked a comfy cabana with a spectacular view of the Petronas Towers on one side and KL Tower and Merdeka 118 on the other.

Luckily our ticket included two drinks each so we enjoyed a couple of cocktails as the sun went down and sat mesmerised by the views, reflecting on how lucky we are to get to live this life. The Helipad is by far one of the BEST places we have visited in Kuala Lumpur and provides probably the best views of the city – arguably even better than the Skybox on KL Tower which we visited last time we were here, as you get a view of the tower itself too!

Don’t forget to add this incredibly unique experience to your bucket list if you plan to visit Kuala Lumpur – just search ‘Heli Lounge Bar – Menara KH’ on Google maps and you’re good to go!
