I’m Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!

Yes, you read that right!

On 1st June 2025, a team of intrepid explorers from Panache Cruises will be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime to Tanzania to summit Africa’s tallest mountain.

I cannot express my excitement for this trip. I’ve always wanted to challenge myself to something BIG, having been inspired by so many others in my life — and others I’ve watched online or on TV — and I can’t believe the opportunity has arisen.

The best part is, we are doing it all for an incredible charity, Reuben’s Retreat.

Reuben’s Retreat was founded in August 2012, two days after Reuben Graham died aged just 23 months old. Reuben’s lovely mum Nicola created the charity to help others who are facing (or have already dealt with) similar heartbreak. The team at Reuben’s Retreat walk side-by-side with families to offer emotional and practical support for parents and siblings bereaved of a child, as well as for families of children with medical and life-limiting complexities.

I was lucky enough to visit Reuben’s Retreat in Glossop in early 2024 and was blown away by the hard work and dedication that has gone into building such a beautiful legacy for Reuben.

Nicola and the team have plans to renovate a huge portion of their building into a real retreat for families to come and stay. It will provide all the necessary equipment, such as hoists, adapted bathrooms, oxygen storage and more. These family apartments will join onto the main retreat, where the team host children and their families for swimming sessions, music classes, games nights, in-house cinemas and more. It is a really magical place, full of joy and positivity.

As a team, Panache Cruises have pledged to raise a minimum of £50,000 in 2025 for Reuben’s Retreat, to help fund this renovation project. To do this, a group of us will be heading to Tanzania with The Bucket List Company to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, which is not only Africa’s tallest mountain but also the world’s tallest free-standing mountain! I’ll be writing more in the coming months about preparation for our trek via the Marangu route, so keep your eyes peeled and sign up to my website below to be the first to read about it.

I’m delighted to be involved with such a wonderful cause, as well as getting the opportunity to tick something amazing off my bucket list.

So please, I know times are tough, but I promise these families have it tougher than us — Reuben’s Retreat currently supports more than 800 families going through such difficult times. Any pennies you can spare are gratefully received by Nicola and the team and will go a long way to supporting both our Kilimanjaro trek and the families at Reuben’s Retreat.
